KAPO KAPO LEARNING STORY

The Matariki Festival started at 6.00 pm on Tuesday 23rd June. When we all went inside the arena we had to get dressed and put on our piupiu. We all had to put a moko on our face and some people who weren't part of the poly club had to practice doing the haka slow.

When we did the haka we did It too fast and Matua Todd said our feet sounded like elephants. When we went on stage we still got it right and I felt proud of myself because we showed how much talent we all have.

After Kapo Kapo I felt happy because I was putting in a lot of effort and performing for my family, Matua Todd and mostly Corinna school.

Jerry Collins

On Wednesday 17th June, I went to Jerry Collins's funeral with some other kids from Corinna. We represented Corinna School at his funeral because he use to come to Corinna School when he was younger. He died in a car crash in France and so did his wife. His baby, Ayla is very sick in hospital.

During the funeral I had to be respectful and be a role model like when I'm In the class room. I had to listen to all the speech's that Jerry Collin's family and friends said about him. They took a long time but I listened carefully. I felt sad for Jerry collins's family and also Alana's family.

This is a link to Maa nonu's speech to Jerry Collins: Speech

This was a really important speech for Jerry Collins because it shared his life with everyone. I nearly cried.

I felt proud being at Jerry collins furneral because we were representing Corinna School for Jerry Collins

Writing Learning Story!

In writing I have been learning to use descriptive language to describe the character and paint a picture In the reader's head so the reader understand's my story.

I wrote a story that was fictional. We had to pretend that we had got balloted to the war and we had to write how we felt when we got ballotted. Evidence

The writing skill I used was to use descriptive language to entertain the reader.

An example is: I took a deep breath. I was shaking like a frozen pig In a freezer
I couldn’t hear anything. It was like I was in a room full of emptiness.

And I also learnt how to make connections with other people's work and summerise it in my own words.I can include the 5w's also include a introduction and put in an interesting hook.

Reading Learning Story!

In reading I have been learning to read the Information and look for key words to help me find the key information quickly to answer my questions.

I use what I already know about the war and conflict to help me know what the text is telling us.

When I am reading the text I can visualise the authors word's in my head.

When I am skimming and scanning I am reading the key Info and taking the Ideas by holding it in my head, making notes and summerising the info in my own words.

I can ask a wondering question about the story or about my research about the war and somtimes use puntuations so the reader know's when to pause and take a breath.

My wondering questions help's me to find information and talk about NZ's involvement in wars with my buddy and my learning group .

In my reading I have been learning to use books in the library that is about the war and research it on the Internet too so I learn lots more. When I am researching on the internet I am learning to chose the best website. I need to check that the information is true.

Here are some links to my research:

Next Steps: Is to explain what the auther means because sometimes we need to read between the lines and look for clues tochelp us understand what the text is telling us.

Maths learning story

In maths I have been learning to work together with a team by sharing my brainy thinking and explaining my ideas so that my whole team understands what I'm saying and how I solved the problem.
This helps my learning team to be confident about maths and and being able to explain their own strategies. It means that no one is being a passenger.

If they don't understand I can ask my learning team questions for e.g. " I don't understand, can you please explain it in a different way?"

Also in maths I learnt this new strategy using brackets.

(12 x 14) + (10 x 10) + (10 x 04) + (10x02) + (02 x 04) = 100 + 40 + 20 + 8 = 168

This is how I can solve my problems when the numbers are bigger. It is a faster way to solve multiplication problems because I can use my times tables to multiply the hundreds then the tens and then the ones.
